Tetanus, Diphtheria & Pertussis vaccine. Administered in pregnancy as part of the state vaccine programme. Please note that this is for pregnant women only.

Postnatal Home visits are offered after discharge from hospital. Discovery clients are able to get up to 3 free postnatal visits in the first 6 weeks after baby is born, subject to availability. The first visit is always at home and subsequent follow ups may be at the clinic or at home (depending on availability).

To book a Home visit, please contact the clinic directly. The first visit is 1hr30min and follow ups are 1hr.

Sr Megan Benn is a Registered Nurse & Midwife and Breastfeeding counsellor. A Breastfeeding Consultation is offered to any clients experiencing any challenges with breastfeeding, or who just want to check that all is going well with their breastfeeding journey.

All Discovery clients get a FREE breastfeeding consultation within the first 6 weeks

Brigitte Williams is a Registered Nurse & Midwife, and a SACLC (South African Certified Lactation Consultant). Brigitte will assess and assist any moms who are experiencing challenging breastfeeding journeys.

She has joined the Tender Touch team and brings not only her years of breastfeeding expertise, but can also offer clients Home phototherapy for newborn jaundice and the newborn vaccines (6 - 14 weeks).

Follow-up and General consultation: weekly weigh ins, advice on feeding, fussy babies, sleep, routine, emotional support, starting solids, any other advice required

Please note that the 6 month old vaccine is done on specific days every month, as the government stock gives us a 10 dose vial which, when opened, has to be used on 8-10 babies in one six hour period.

Onvaro (Chicken Pox) and Havrix (Hepatitis A) vaccines - optional private vaccines that can be given from 12mths. A second Hepatitis A will be due 6 months after the first one.

Hexaxim 4 (injection)

Government vaccination which covers Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis & Injectable Polio

Meningococcal Meningitis (A, C, W & Y strains) vaccination which is typically administered from the age of 9 months. If done before 2 years, 2 doses required. If after 2 years, 1 dose required

Bexsero is a new Meningococcal meningitis vaccine against Serotype B. Available from 8 weeks.

2 primary doses, 2 months apart. A booster may be recommended.

Onvaro (Chicken Pox) and Hepatitis A (Havrix) vaccines - optional private vaccines. This second Hepatitis A should be at least 6 months after the first one.

- Highly contagious varicella-Zoster viral infection causing itchy, blistery fluid filled pustules.

- Spread via skin to skin contact, saliva, sharing cups, skin to skin and contaminated surfaced

- The virus can cause Shingles in later life

- A highly contagious infection of the liver spread via faecal contamination of food and water

- Spread via restaurants. crèches and other food outlets

Diptheria, Tetanus, Pertussis & Inactivated Polio Immunization (Private) - Adacel Quadra. Typically given at 6 years old, 12 years old and in adults needing the Whooping Cough vaccine when they have a pregnant partner.
